Orbit eTOG Listing Service: RFC-8 Consider non-latin characters in guy names
Description: Eg T+005C, T+0064
Comments:
- support
- i'm of two minds. anti because that's now how unicode does it. also pro because that's not how unicode does it
- *not how unicode does it
- against. consider translations of this page into other languages if necessary
- While I believe that some TOG names are most evocative if they include specific scripts besides latin, I think allowing other scripts would make it difficult for some users to render TOG names in full. This would be against the spirit of a standard
- another reason against is that the ALL CAPITALS STANDARDESE THING dosent work in non-alphabetic systems
- but a reason for is that T+0064 is really funny that it's just the shaken emoji
- Remove T+0064 regardless, partly for the above reasons (comment by togpoint submitter)
- i dont think this is closed
- did we reach a consensus?
- Proposal: Make this a central issue of discussion in the first in person meeting of the TOG consortium
- Status: DEFERRED
- This RFC is slated for discussion at the inaugural meeting in October.
- Further comments are discouraged.
- see also T+0080 now
- cuz that isn't even an unicode character :shortpathvac:
- DISPOSITION: ADOPT CHINESE?
- DISPOSITION: CUNEIFORM?
- DISPOSITION: IDK
- (First Plenary Session, eTOG Consortium) Disposition: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
- DISPOSITION: GOOGLE SHORTPATHVAC
- i think realistically we've decided this is fine and could probably close the issue
